About Our Spay and Neuter Programs
Spay and neuter helps prevent the overpopulation of cats and dogs across Washington. We can’t solve the pet overpopulation crisis through adoptions alone, we must also prevent unwanted and accidental pregnancies. Cats and dogs can have up to two litters per year and those puppies and kittens can have their first litter before they are one! Sadly, there are thousands of dogs and cats in our state who are already homeless and waiting for their chance at a forever home; more unwanted puppies and kittens born fill already crowded shelters. So, you can see how important it is to spay or neuter your pet! (Note, females are spayed and males are are neutered.)
Our Spay and Neuter Increase Program (SNIP) increases the number of high quality, low-cost cat and dog spay and neuter surgeries being performed in Washington State. To tackle the overpopulation issue, we create new and expand current spay and neuter programs throughout the state. We focus on areas with high rates of cat and dog overpopulation where there are few affordable surgery options; we identify partners that can provide the high quality and low-cost surgeries; and, we raise funds and give administrative support to facilitate the surgeries.
Our Safety Net Program supports clients who can’t afford the cost to spay or neuter their cat; when this occurs, we cover the full or partial cost of the surgery (at select clinics).
Thank you to our amazing supporters who came through in our GiveBig sPay it Forward campaign. We exceeded our goal by 50%. This is going allow us to raise our 2022 Spay/Neuter goal in Eastern Washington to 600 cats!

Need Help?
Since 2005, we have worked to increase the number of affordable spay and neuter surgeries available to stop overpopulation of cats and dogs across. Washington. In 2025, our priority is to increase surgeries for the cats and dogs of unhoused and very low-income pet owners and also unowned “community” cats and dogs in central Washington.
CURRENT SPAY AND NEUTER SERVICES
Owned Cats and Dogs
For owned cats and dogs, we may cover a portion of the spay/neuter surgery cost. This service focuses on pets in the Puget Sound area (dogs and community cats only) and Yakima county. In most cases, it will be up to the pet caretaker to pay $50 per surgery for an owned cat or dog.
As a first step, review the income table below. To qualify for assistance, your total “household income” can not exceed the limits noted in the table below. If you believe you qualify, please follow the instructions below depending on your area as vouchers are offered by location.
Puget Sound area (Dogs only): Email spayitforward@pawsitivealliance.org or call 206-486-4738 to inquire for assistance.
Snohomish County Area (Cats Only): We partner with Feral Cat Spay and Neuter Project (FCSNP) to increase spay and neuter surgeries for owned cats when pet owners can not afford the surgery fee. Simply inquire with FCSNP for help.
Yakima County Area (owned cats and dogs): To request help, please fill out this application. Please allow 7-10 days for us to respond to your inquiry.
Yakima County Area (Community/feral cats): Go to our upcoming events page for clinic dates. Surgeries are performed at the Yakima Humane Society Spay & Neuter Clinic.
NOTE: It is up to pet caretakers to make the surgery appointment and get the animal(s) to and from their appointments.
